Power to the flower in Ards

We love a garden centre here at Edition247 and if you are familiar with the work of Hillmount then you’ll know their garden game is strong, as we found out at the launch of its new £1m Ards’ store.

It was a festive frenzy with all styles of Xmassy decor on show, including a rose gold theme that is totally giving the traditional green and red Christmas look a run for its money.

Based at the junction of Movilla Road and Ballyreagh Road, the new Hillmount has everything we’re used to getting from the Mercer family (who have been running this, now, three-unit show for over 75 years).

From barbecues to bulbs, doggie treats to dinner in The Gardners’ Rest, Hillmount Ards is a day out with over 30,000 gardening products to browse as well as gifts.

Rumour has it that this site will be the home of a santa’s grotto for dogs only too!

Owner Robin Mercer, Hillmount Ards, said he’d always promised wife Edith that he would open a store in her native Ards and called it a ‘labour of love’.

“We have created a store where the local community can gather to shop and to relax over coffee, similar to the experience our customers enjoy at our sister garden centres in Bangor and Belfast,” he said.
