The winner of a nationwide competition to find the public’s favourite image of Ireland has been revealed today by short break holiday company SuperBreak.
A stunning photograph of Lough Carra at Brownstown, near Bllinrobe, Co Mayo, was chosen as the winning entry out of more than 300 submitted in to the competition.
Captured by Liz Parsons, from Ballinrobe, the photo achieved acclaim from a panel of expert judges including influential Irish photographer, Patrick Donald, and travel editor Tom Sweeney, before winning a public vote on the SuperBreak Ireland Facebook Page.
Achieving more than a third (37 per cent) of the votes, Liz has won a luxury two-night staycation for two people staying at the 4* Hotel Westport in County Mayo, including breakfast and dinner on the first night of stay, as well as entry into the historic Westport House & Gardens, courtesy of SuperBreak.
In second place, a joyful photograph taken by Jack Kilfeather, captures a spontaneous moment at Wooly Wards Farm, Swords Dublin. In third, an inspiring view of Mount Errigal in Donegal captured by Aine Hayden, during a family adventure. They have won a €100 photography gift voucher from ‘My Ireland’ sponsor, Giles Norman and Dublin Passes for access to a variety of attractions, transport and special shopping offers respectively.
Jacquie Fisher of SuperBreak said: “We would like to extend our huge congratulations to Liz as the winner of our My Ireland photography competition, and to our runners up. Ireland is home to some of the world’s most stunning scenery, as showcased in the images submitted. My Ireland set out to celebrate those incredible holiday destinations on the doorstep as viewed by local people.”
Competition winner, Liz Parsons, said: “I couldn’t be happier to have won the My Ireland photography competition and would like to thank my amazing friends for voting for my photograph and supporting me. I have just taken up photography as a hobby so this is a huge boost to my confidence behind the lens. Brownstone is just 10 minutes away from my home and whenever I go there it’s stunning, a personal paradise that is often just shared between me and the fishing boats. It was such a pleasure to capture this image on a glorious Summer’s day. There really is no more beautiful a place than Mayo in the sunshine.”
With more than three decades of experience in providing package short breaks, SuperBreak launched a dedicated Irish website earlier this year and has already helped hundreds of local holidaymakers enjoy a getaway to favourite Irish destinations, as well as to the UK, Europe and beyond.
